National Heritage Week runs from the 13th – 21st of August this year. Sunday the 21st of August is Water Heritage Day and our very own Askeaton Ballysteen Natural Heritage group are running a practical workshop to mark the week.

Sunday’s workshop will involve a guided walk around Askeaton town (wheelchair accessible) from 11am to 2:30pm.
“These workshops explore the many issues facing the Deel including wastewater pollution, invasive species and nutrient and sediment runoff. Participants will learn how community action can make a difference for their local waterbody and will attend practical demonstrations where they will get to see what creatures live below the water and how the environment affects them. A community water biodiversity action plan will be created following the workshops that will help the community to plan and carry out effective projects.”
The group will also launch their Deel Heritage Booklet and video on the day which is promised to be a great success!
